10 Healthy Habits to introduce in 2023
We are in the last two months of 2022 and 2023 is around the corner. Let's take this time to reflect on the past year and what we can do to make next year even better.
Here are a few tips to improve your mental health in 2023!
1. Take a critical look at your social media
Research shows us that people who spend more time on social media are more likely to develop a negative body image.
So in 2023 let’s think about what we want to see on our social media and what makes us feel good. There are plenty of people on social media that are all about body positivity and self-love and who encourage you to be yourself!
Take a look at our blog post to find some good examples: https://22htes.wixsite.com/everybodysunique/post/celebrities
2. Take a critical look at your social circle
You are who you surround yourself with. So cut out all the negativity that is around you and surround yourself with supportive and uplifting people. If you catch friends and family talking negatively about their bodies or other people’s bodies, educate them. Show them how unhealthy it is for themselves and the people around them.
Healthy relationships are key to a healthy and happy life. Let’s distance ourselves from people that bring us down.
3. Eat more mood foods ;)
There are foods that are good for your mental (and physical) health. In 2023 let’s try to eat more of these foods every day.

4. Practice positive thinking
During the pandemic, I found myself guilty of thinking negatively about so many things in life. My mental health was at an all-time low.
This is when I realized I needed to shift my mindset: positive thinking is a key habit for mental health. If you think more positively about things you start to feel happier and your mental health will improve.
If you actively practice this, it will eventually become natural.
This also brings me to my next healthy habit:
5. Cut out negative self-talk
It is completely normal that negative thoughts about our bodies enter our minds. However, we can change how we react to this. Each time a negative thought pops up, exchange it for a positive thought. What could help is making a list of all the things you love about your body and what it does for you.
Think about it this way: would you say this to a friend? If the answer is no, why would you say it to yourself?
6. Practice gratitude
Practicing gratitude is important to stay in line with the past two healthy habits.
Gratitude journaling is easy to add to your routine. It only takes a few minutes each day and can be extremely helpful for improving your mindset and mental health.
Plus, lucky for us, there are plenty of gratitude journals to choose from, so pick one that fits you.
7. Compliment others freely
In the new year, let’s replace judging others with complimenting others. More often than not we judge other people on things that we are insecure about ourselves. So, instead of doing that let’s give them a compliment you wish that you would have gotten. It will make them feel good, but, most importantly, it will make you feel good too ;)
8. Do something nice for your body
Next to thinking positively about your body and thanking it for all that it does for you, you should treat your body! What is a better way to thank your body than to give it some extra love? The options are endless: take a warm bath, put on a mask, go on a walk, or take a good nap.
9. Get rid of clothing that doesn’t fit and buy clothing you feel great in
If you find yourself guilty of keeping clothes that no longer fit you with the thought of ‘I will fit into that again’, this one’s for you. It can be extremely harmful to constantly be reminded that something doesn’t fit you and to not feel good in the clothes that you wear/own.
So: Donate. Sell. Get rid of the clothes that no longer fit! Treat yourself. Go shopping and buy clothes that make you feel confident!
10. Don’t compare yourself (to others or to your younger self)
Lastly, EverBODY’s Unique! It is important to remember that no one looks the same. We should look at these differences as a positive thing and not a negative thing.
And don’t forget, bodies change a lot. You shouldn’t expect your body to look the same as it did five years ago. Comparing yourself to others or your younger self does not help you at all. You look beautiful no matter the shape/size/colour of your body.
Let’s celebrate uniqueness in 2023!
Thank you!
Leave your own comments and thoughts or even other examples you remember below and let’s talk about it.
Love the tips! Especially positive thinking is something I should practice more often. Thinking about it just before you go to sleep can put you in a good mood, which also makes you sleep better, which is also good for your mental health! ☺️
