How to teach your kid(s) everyBODY’s unique
iPad kids are exposed to skinny Instagram models at a young age and may believe that that is how you have to look like, but they don't. Parents should teach their kid(s) that everyBODY's unique and that they are perfect.
In today’s world, it is common that children to have a phone or another way to access social media, they are known as iPad kids. iPad kids stare at their devices all day and all night, and when it comes to body image, body positivity, and other topics that are similar, social media is a big distributor of information on those topics. With that mentioned, children can be exposed to these topics at a very young age. For example, with Instagram, on Instagram people just wanna post the best parts of their lives, this can range from pictures of their holiday, something they bought, or their body. Unfortunately, it is common to post pictures of yourself and your body, and with the majority of the pictures are people trying to look like skinny models, children are exposed to that at a young age. Once they see these several pictures of women on their Instagram with very small bodies they may believe that everybody has to look like that but they DON’T!
The message to give to your kid(s) about social media and body image/body positivity
These messages have to be brought to children at a young age so that they don’t grow up believing this and therefore get mental health issues if they believe that they don’t look like an Instagram model. To avoid this from happening, parents can have talks with their kid(s) at the age they tend to get on social media. Parents can make these conversations very serious or lightly, each to their own. As long as they are informed on the topic. One main message I believe each parent should tell their child is that their body is beautiful just the way it is and everyBODY’s unique, no one is the same.
“Your body is beautiful just the way it is and everyBODY's unique, no one is the same.”
